Aromatherapy is the specialist application of essential oils used in a variety of contexts including uplift, relaxation, stress relief and remedial not subject to medical prohibition and connected to palliative care. The critical aspects of this qualification are the decision making concerned with the safe blending of essential oils and their appropriateness in use based upon client assessment.

How long is the course?

The course is run over 6 Sundays 10:00-4:00

One day a month for six months with a final assessment session set after all course work finished.

PLUS Principals and Practice of Complementary therapies and Business for complementary therapies. This is a compulsory part of the Aromatherapy, Body Massage and Reflexology courses.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no entry requirements apart from a sound understanding of written and spoken English. You may also be required to have a short interview either in person or over the telephone.

  • Methods of application- massage, inhalation, immersion and topical

  • Storage of oils
  • Buying oils- quality feesable

How is the course delivered?

The course is taught through a series of lectures and tutorials, utilising visual learning aids, Students will also practice treatments upon one another during the practical sessions. There will be two additional practical sessions where students will perform treatments on members of the public. Students can purchase oils from Sylvia Hodge College.

What equipment is required for the course?

Students will be required to wear the college uniform of white tunic top, black trousers and flat black (no open toes). Students will also require 2 files and dividers.

While training you will use the college oils, however you will be required to purchase oils to practice outside of college.

How is the course assessed?

The course is assessed by:

  • Assignments
  • Completed case studies. This consists of 60 treatments each with full consultations and written notes of progress and the final outcome. Self-assessment of your performance is an important and integral part of this process.
  • A Practical Assessment day
  • completed portfolio and assessment book
  • Continuous assessment throughout the course in the form of written assignments
  • one to one tutorial

Is there any home study?

Independent study is an essential part of this course and you will be required to do practical and theoretical home study between college sessions.

What qualifications will I gain?

Upon successful completion of the course candidates will be awarded the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Aromatherapy
